THE JOHN HAMILTON MEMORIAL LECTURE 2008.

CITIZENSHIP: THE CHALLENGE

Liverpool Quakers’ inaugural John Hamilton Memorial Lecture explores the meaning of citizenship in today's world.

-Where and what are we citizens of?

-What are our responsibilities as citizens?

-What rights are conferred on us by our citizenship?

-How does our conception of our own citizenship influence our response to events, changes, risks and threats?

Yvonne Nolan, a lifelong socialist and Merseysider, will challenge the government's approach to citizenship, arguing for a different, new understanding of the challenges we face in today’s world.

Yvonne has worked around the world developing standards for social care, community development, lifelong learning and children’s workforces. She advises global, national and local bodies in engaging with the populations they serve. She is also an author of several best selling textbooks on care. Yvonne has long been campaigning for social justice, and has served as an elected member of a local authority. She is currently working with the UN on how to deliver care in the cities and settlements of the future.

7pm, Wednesday 8th October 2008, at the Liverpool Quaker Meeting House, School Lane, Liverpool, L1 3BT.
